Sneaky animal parts in foods

Just as I try to encourage you to sneak vegetables into every meal, there are others out there that are doing the exact opposite and ruining all our hard work. There are animal parts in the most unsuspecting foods. “Natural flavor” can be just about anything.  Sometimes it comes from the anal gland of a beaver. Starbucks used to make a “natural” strawberry shake that was dyed red with crushed up beetles. Gelatin is made of animal products. There are plenty of vitamins available that are vegetarian though. Some brands of maple syrup contain beef derivatives. From what I understand these are mainly the cheaper brands. Even sugar and Vitamin D supplements can also contain bone chard. I purchase ‘Vegan Sugar’ from whole foods (365 brand).

Famous Vegetarians

Sometimes when you need some support or motivation to become vegetarian, a good role model is all you need. I have struggled with the transition before and this was during a time when there was a lot of scrutiny around it. I was in the army at the time and I literally ate mashed potatoes every single day because there was no other option. I am very stubborn so I decided to become a vegetarian no matter what it takes. When you’re in the army and you are a vegetarian there are only two responses:the first one is of delight because soldiers are delighted when you give them youralloted portion of bacon,sausage, and well various army issued meats. The other reaction is one of total shock and disbelief. Of course, I had a great role model so nobody argued with me. Healthy meal in 5 minutes or less

When I find something that’s healthy, easy, and delicious- I can’t wait to write about it. I hope this vegetable trick will help people who don’t have the time to eat fresh vegetables. This is a concotion that I made two weeks ago and I’ve been eating it for lunch and dinner every day since. So far, this is the best trick up my sleeve to eat lots of vegetables with hardly any effort at all.  I was a picky eater growing up so this particular recipe is fast and easy but it’s also very bland, but that’s a good thing because it is a great “base.”  The secret to this trick is to buy shredded carrots and shredded purple cabbage. There is no consensus on this, but research shows that too much soy protein is linked to breast cancer. There is still a lot of debate and controversy over this, but I think that anything that mimics estrogen in access is bad for you. The only thing we do know is that estrogen DOES cause breast cancer. So far, the assumption is that the soy estrogen link is a myth. So what is a vegetarian to do? I am extremely health conscious, so I stopped eating all soy altogether. Not all healthy food is good

yuckEver since Whole Foods opened it’s doors, the demand for healthy food has increased. The health food market is huge and it seems like there’s a new product on the shelves every week. I have tried every healthy packaged consumer good out there: healthy cheddar kale chips, vegan walnut parmesan cheese, mint chocolate tofu bars, etc. Most of these are tasty and they are all very expensive. Every once in a while, an imposter such as Linwoods super power nut topping wants in on the billion dollar health food market. But this product is disgusting and a gimmick. Fa-la-la-la falafels

Falafels are everywhere these days. They are very delicious but what is a falafel and should you eat it? In this post, I will address these questions as well as give you some tips on how to maximize your nutritional benefit of falafel. The falafel are middle-eastern (not Greek!) and are made of garbanzo beans which are high in fiber. I think everyone knows they need more fiber in their diet, and it’s easy with the falafel. If you buy them frozen and make them yourself either baked or deep fried in a unsaturated oil such as peanut oil or canola or vegetable oil combined with cucumbers, tomatoes, tahini (yogurt) sauce, cabbage/carrot coleslaw filling on whole wheat pita bread they are good for you. especially if you are trying to lose weight.  Foods rich in fiber such as cabbage, carrots, beans, grapefruit produce the melanin to burn fat cells.
